A Day in the Life
A Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Manager oversees the entire LIS department, ensuring the strategic alignment, effective implementation, and ongoing maintenance of all laboratory information systems. This involves managing a team, budgeting, vendor relations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Lead and manage a team of LIS analysts and specialists
- Develop and implement LIS strategies aligned with laboratory and organizational goals
- Oversee LIS project implementations, upgrades, and system integrations
- Manage vendor relationships and contract negotiations for LIS software and services
- Ensure LIS compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO, CAP, local health regulations)
- Develop and manage the LIS department budget
- Provide high-level technical guidance and support for complex LIS issues
- Collaborate with laboratory management, IT, and other departments on system needs and improvements
Work Environment
Primarily an office-based role, often within a larger hospital, research institution, or private laboratory. The environment is professional, collaborative, and involves frequent meetings with various stakeholders. May occasionally visit laboratory areas.
