A Day in the Life
A Laboratory Systems Architect (Environmental) designs and implements sophisticated, often automated, data systems for environmental chemical analysis. This involves understanding both laboratory processes and IT infrastructure to create seamless data flow from instruments to cloud-based platforms, ensuring data integrity and accessibility for environmental monitoring and research.
- Design end-to-end data architectures for environmental chemical laboratories, from instrument data capture to cloud storage
- Select and integrate appropriate LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) or custom software solutions
- Develop data pipelines and APIs for automated data transfer between lab instruments, LIMS, and cloud platforms
- Ensure data quality, security, and compliance with environmental data standards and regulations
- Collaborate with environmental scientists, IT teams, and lab personnel to gather requirements and design solutions
- Evaluate new technologies (e.g., IoT sensors, AI/ML for data processing) for potential integration
- Create detailed system documentation, including architectural diagrams and technical specifications
- Provide expert consultation on data management best practices for environmental analytical labs
Work Environment
