A Day in the Life
A Mineral Processing Engineer designs, optimizes, and manages the processes used to extract valuable minerals from raw ore. This involves applying principles of chemistry, physics, and engineering to develop efficient and environmentally sound methods for crushing, grinding, flotation, and other separation techniques.
- Design and optimize mineral processing flowsheets for various ore types.
- Conduct laboratory and pilot plant test work to evaluate different processing methods.
- Select appropriate equipment (crushers, mills, flotation cells, thickeners) for mineral separation.
- Monitor and troubleshoot operational issues in mineral processing plants.
- Implement process control strategies to maximize recovery and product quality.
- Analyze data from plant operations to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and economic evaluations for projects.
Work Environment
