A Molecular Diagnostician's day revolves around performing and interpreting molecular tests to detect diseases. This involves receiving patient samples, extracting DNA/RNA, running PCR or sequencing assays, analyzing the results, and reporting findings to clinicians. They ensure accuracy, adhere to strict quality control, and troubleshoot any issues with the molecular assays, playing a critical role in patient care and public health surveillance.
- Receive and process patient samples (blood, tissue, etc.) for molecular testing
- Perform nucleic acid extraction (DNA/RNA) from various biological samples
- Execute molecular assays such as PCR, qPCR, DNA sequencing, and microarray analysis
- Analyze and interpret complex molecular data to identify pathogens, genetic mutations, or biomarkers
- Ensure strict adherence to quality control and quality assurance protocols
- Troubleshoot technical issues with molecular diagnostic equipment and assays
- Generate accurate and timely diagnostic reports for clinicians
- Maintain detailed records and comply with laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., ISO 15189)
