A Day in the Life
A Molecular Plant Pathologist spends their day in the lab, conducting experiments to understand how plant diseases work at a genetic level. This involves DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, and microscopy, followed by data analysis and report writing.
- Design and execute experiments to study plant-pathogen interactions
- Perform molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and gel electrophoresis
- Culture and maintain plant pathogens and host plants in controlled environments
- Analyze genetic sequences and gene expression data using bioinformatics tools
