A Day in the Life
A Natural Disaster Risk Modeler spends their day developing and refining complex computational models to simulate natural hazards like landslides, tsunamis, and floods. This involves collecting and processing geospatial data, writing code, running simulations, and analyzing results to assess potential impacts.
- Collect and process vast amounts of geospatial data (topography, seismic, meteorological)
- Develop and refine numerical models for simulating natural disaster events (e.g., fluid dynamics, geotechnical models)
- Write and optimize code for simulation software and data analysis scripts
- Run complex simulations on high-performance computing systems
