A Nuclear/Radiation Safety Specialist's day involves inspecting facilities, developing and implementing safety protocols, training staff, and monitoring radiation levels to ensure compliance with regulations. They conduct risk assessments, investigate incidents, and advise on safe handling and disposal of radioactive materials across various industries.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities using radioactive materials to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Develop, implement, and update radiation safety programs and emergency response plans.
- Provide training to staff on radiation safety procedures, proper handling of radioactive sources, and use of protective equipment.
- Monitor radiation levels in workplaces and surrounding environments using specialized detectors.
- Perform risk assessments for activities involving radiation and advise on mitigation strategies.
- Investigate radiation-related incidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Manage the safe storage, transport, and disposal of radioactive waste.
