A Day in the Life
An Operations Manager in a laboratory ensures the smooth and efficient functioning of all lab activities. This includes managing budgets, procuring equipment and supplies, overseeing staff, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and optimizing workflows to support scientific research or diagnostic testing effectively.
- Oversee daily laboratory operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.
- Manage the laboratory budget, including procurement of reagents, consumables, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, local health guidelines) and quality assurance standards (e.g., ISO 17025).
- Supervise and train laboratory staff, manage performance, and foster a productive work environment.
- Implement and maintain Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory processes.
- Act as a liaison between laboratory staff, researchers, and external stakeholders.
Work Environment
