A Paleontologist/Stratigrapher's day involves a deep dive into Earth's history through the study of fossils and rock layers. This means extensive fieldwork to map geological formations, meticulous lab analysis of fossils, and interpreting data to understand ancient environments and evolutionary changes over geological time.
- Conduct geological fieldwork to map rock formations and identify fossiliferous layers
- Collect and document fossil and rock samples from various stratigraphic units
- Analyze fossil assemblages to determine age, paleoenvironment, and evolutionary relationships
- Study sedimentary structures and rock types to reconstruct depositional environments
- Develop detailed stratigraphic columns and cross-sections
- Interpret geological and paleontological data to understand major Earth history events
