A Pharmaceutical Chemist spends their day in a laboratory, meticulously developing and testing new drug formulations. This involves synthesizing chemical compounds, optimizing drug delivery systems, conducting stability studies, and ensuring that all new medicines meet stringent quality, safety, and efficacy standards before reaching patients.
- Synthesize novel chemical compounds for potential drug candidates.
- Develop and optimize drug formulations (e.g., tablets, capsules, injections).
- Conduct analytical testing to determine purity, potency, and stability of drug substances and products.
- Perform stability studies under various environmental conditions.
- Design and execute experiments to understand drug degradation pathways.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation for regulatory submissions.
- Operate and maintain advanced analytical instruments (HPLC, GC-MS, NMR).
- Collaborate with pharmacologists, biologists, and regulatory affairs specialists.
