A Plant Computational Biologist uses bioinformatics and computational methods to analyze vast amounts of plant genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data. A typical day involves writing scripts, running analyses on high-performance computing clusters, interpreting complex biological data, and collaborating with experimental biologists.
- Develop and implement bioinformatics pipelines for analyzing plant genomic and transcriptomic data
- Perform sequence alignment, gene annotation, and phylogenetic analysis
- Analyze gene expression data (RNA-seq) to identify genes involved in specific plant traits
- Model metabolic pathways and regulatory networks in plants
- Utilize statistical and machine learning approaches for data interpretation
