A Day in the Life
A Plant Genetic Resource Manager focuses on the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic diversity. This involves managing seed banks or living collections, conducting germplasm characterization, developing conservation strategies, and facilitating access to genetic resources for research and breeding.
- Manage and maintain plant genetic resource collections (seed banks, field gene banks)
- Characterize and evaluate germplasm for important traits (e.g., disease resistance, yield)
- Develop and implement conservation strategies for endemic and endangered plant species
