A Day in the Life
A Precision Ag-Systems Designer develops and integrates automated and IoT-based systems for modern farming. This involves designing smart irrigation, drone monitoring, sensor networks, and data analytics platforms to optimize resource use, improve crop yields, and enhance farm management efficiency.
- Design and develop IoT solutions for agricultural monitoring (sensors, actuators)
- Create automated irrigation and climate control systems for greenhouses/fields
- Integrate drone technology for crop health monitoring and mapping
- Develop data acquisition and analytics platforms for farm data
- Select and configure hardware components (sensors, microcontrollers, communication modules)
- Write firmware and software for embedded systems and data processing
- Test, debug, and optimize precision agriculture systems
- Collaborate with agronomists, engineers, and farmers to understand requirements
Work Environment
Work is primarily in an office or lab setting for design and development, with occasional field visits to farms for system installation, testing, and troubleshooting. The environment is collaborative and technically focused.
