A Product Development Chemist spends their day researching new chemical formulations, conducting experiments in the lab, analyzing results, and scaling up successful formulations for consumer products. They focus on improving existing products or creating entirely new ones, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Research new raw materials, ingredients, and chemical technologies
- Design and execute experiments to create new formulations for products (e.g., detergents, cosmetics)
- Conduct stability testing, performance evaluations, and compatibility studies on formulations
- Analyze chemical properties of ingredients and finished products using various lab techniques
- Collaborate with marketing, regulatory, and manufacturing teams to define product specifications
- Scale up successful lab formulations to pilot and then full production batches
- Troubleshoot formulation issues during development and manufacturing
- Ensure all formulations comply with safety regulations (e.g., cosmetic regulations, environmental standards)
- Document all research, experimental data, and product specifications
Work Environment
