A Day in the Life
A QA Lead in the Meat/Dairy sector is responsible for ensuring the chemical and biochemical safety of animal-based food products. This involves overseeing hygiene standards, managing microbial and chemical testing, implementing HACCP and other food safety systems, and ensuring compliance with national and international food regulations. The day includes factory floor inspections, lab result reviews, documentation, and team leadership.
- Develop and implement comprehensive food safety and quality plans (HACCP, ISO 22000)
- Oversee hygiene and sanitation practices in processing facilities
- Manage microbial testing, chemical residue analysis, and sensory evaluation of products
- Conduct regular inspections of raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods
- Investigate and resolve quality deviations, non-conformances, and customer complaints
- Ensure compliance with local food regulations (e.g., Food Act) and export standards
- Train and supervise QA/QC staff on food safety protocols
- Maintain detailed records for traceability and audit purposes
Work Environment
Works primarily in a food processing plant, often in cold and sometimes wet conditions. The environment is highly regulated, requires strict adherence to hygiene and safety protocols, and can be fast-paced.
