A Day in the Life
A Quality Assurance Manager in the Biotechnology sector leads the development and implementation of stringent quality systems for biotech products, such as pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, or research reagents. The day involves strategic planning of QA initiatives, overseeing audits, managing regulatory submissions, leading a team of QA professionals, and ensuring compliance with GxP (GMP, GLP, GCP) standards. Collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs is constant.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) for biotech products
- Lead internal and external audits (e.g., regulatory inspections, client audits)
- Manage all aspects of regulatory compliance (FDA, EMA, NMRA) for biotech products
- Oversee deviation, CAPA, and change control processes
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the QA team
- Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing to integrate quality by design principles
- Review and approve critical quality documents (protocols, reports, SOPs)
- Stay updated on evolving biotech regulations and industry best practices
Work Environment
Works primarily in an office setting within a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company, with frequent interaction with laboratories and manufacturing facilities. The environment is highly scientific, regulated, and demands meticulous attention to detail and compliance.
