A Radiopharmaceutical Scientist's day involves designing, synthesizing, and testing new radioactive tracers for medical applications, particularly in cancer detection and therapy. This requires a strong understanding of chemistry, pharmacology, and nuclear science, combined with rigorous laboratory work and quality control.
- Design and synthesize novel radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging (e.g., PET, SPECT) and targeted radiotherapy.
- Conduct in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of new tracers.
- Perform rigorous quality control tests on radiopharmaceuticals to ensure purity, stability, and activity.
- Develop and optimize radiolabeling methods for various biomolecules.
- Prepare detailed documentation for regulatory submissions (e.g., clinical trials).
- Collaborate with nuclear medicine physicians, pharmacologists, and biologists.
