A Day in the Life
A Seafood Export Compliance Manager ensures that all aquatic products meet stringent international biological standards and trade regulations for export. This involves reviewing documentation, implementing quality assurance protocols, liaising with regulatory bodies, and staying updated on global trade laws.
- Developing and implementing quality assurance and food safety programs (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000) for seafood processing.
- Ensuring all export documentation, including health certificates and catch certificates, complies with importing country requirements.
- Liaising with local and international regulatory bodies (e.g., SLSI, EU, FDA) for inspections and certifications.
- Conducting internal audits and overseeing external audits to ensure compliance with standards.
- Staying updated on changes in international trade regulations, sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures, and import requirements.
- Training staff on compliance procedures, hygiene standards, and food safety protocols.
- Investigating and resolving any non-compliance issues or customer complaints related to product quality.
- Managing traceability systems to track seafood products from catch to export.
Work Environment
Work is primarily office-based, involving extensive documentation, policy development, and communication. Regular visits to processing plants and cold storage facilities are also required, which can be cold or humid.
