A Day in the Life
A Veterinary Pharmacologist studies how drugs interact with animal systems, focusing on efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics. This involves designing and conducting experiments, analyzing drug metabolism, assessing adverse effects, and contributing to the development of new veterinary medicines or optimizing existing ones for livestock and pets. The work is research-intensive and often lab-based.
- Design and conduct experiments to study drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) in animals.
- Evaluate the efficacy and safety of new and existing veterinary drugs.
- Analyze drug concentrations in biological samples using analytical techniques.
- Interpret pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data.
