A Day in the Life
A Water Quality Analyst spends their day collecting water samples from various sources (drinking water, industrial discharge), performing laboratory tests for chemical and biological contaminants, interpreting results, and generating reports to ensure compliance with safety standards. They also maintain lab equipment and calibrate instruments.
- Collect water samples from designated locations (reservoirs, treatment plants, distribution networks)
- Perform a range of chemical tests (pH, chlorine, heavy metals, nutrients) on water samples
- Conduct microbiological analyses (coliforms, E. coli) to detect contamination
- Operate and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment
- Interpret test results and compare them against national and international water quality standards
- Maintain accurate records of all analyses and generate comprehensive reports
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with laboratory equipment or testing procedures
- Ensure adherence to laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance guidelines
Work Environment
