A Day in the Life
A Water Quality & Aquaculture Specialist monitors plant and animal health, and water chemistry in export-oriented aquaculture farms. This involves regular testing of water parameters, disease surveillance, feed management, and ensuring compliance with international quality standards for seafood exports.
- Conduct regular water quality testing (pH, salinity, oxygen, ammonia, nitrates) in aquaculture ponds/tanks
- Monitor the health and growth of aquatic plants and animals (fish, shrimp)
- Diagnose and manage diseases in aquaculture stock, implementing biosecurity measures
- Optimize feeding regimes and nutritional plans for aquatic species
- Ensure compliance with national and international food safety and environmental standards
- Maintain detailed records of water quality, stock health, and production data
- Advise farm managers on best practices for sustainable aquaculture
- Prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies
Work Environment
Primarily an outdoor, field-based role at aquaculture farms, often involving exposure to sun, water, and farm environments. Some laboratory work for detailed analysis and office work for reporting are also part of the routine.
