About This Role
Coordinates ground operations at Bandaranaike International Airport or Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport — ramp management, passenger flow, CUTE systems, terminal duty management. Employed by AASL. Degree in aviation management or operations management preferred.
A Day in the Life
An Airport Operations Officer's day is focused on the smooth and safe functioning of the airport's airside and landside operations. This involves coordinating various departments, responding to incidents, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing daily operational flows.
- Monitor and manage airside operations, including runway, taxiway, and apron conditions.
- Coordinate with airlines, ground handlers, ATC, and security for efficient aircraft turnarounds.
- Respond to and manage airport incidents, emergencies, and irregular operations.
- Conduct regular inspections of airport facilities and infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with aviation regulations (CAA Sri Lanka, ICAO) and airport procedures.
- Manage passenger flow and terminal operations, including CUTE systems.
- Prepare operational reports and maintain accurate logs.
- Implement and oversee safety management systems (SMS) on the ground.
Work Environment
A dynamic mix of office work (monitoring, reporting) and extensive fieldwork across the airport's airside and landside. This includes exposure to outdoor conditions, noise, and various operational areas.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 6/10 · COMMON overtime
Shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, is common. Emergency response can require being on-call or working extended hours.
