An Aviation Safety Officer's day involves developing, implementing, and monitoring safety management systems (SMS) across aviation operations. This includes conducting audits, investigating incidents, analyzing safety data, and ensuring compliance with national and international regulations to proactively mitigate risks.
- Develop and implement Safety Management System (SMS) policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of operations, facilities, and equipment.
- Investigate aviation incidents and accidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Analyze safety data and trends to identify potential hazards and risks.
- Ensure compliance with national (CAA Sri Lanka) and international (ICAO) safety regulations.
- Provide safety training and awareness programs to staff.
- Prepare safety reports and presentations for management and regulatory bodies.
- Coordinate with various departments (flight ops, maintenance, ground handling) on safety matters.
Work Environment
Primarily an office-based role, involving data analysis, report writing, and meetings. However, it also includes fieldwork for audits, inspections, and incident investigations at airports, hangars, or operational sites.
