A Day in the Life
A Business Economist spends the day analysing macroeconomic and microeconomic data, preparing forecasts, and translating complex economic trends into actionable business insights for leadership teams, banks, or government bodies.
- Collect and clean economic and market data from CBSL, World Bank, and internal databases
- Build and maintain econometric models in R, Python, or SPSS
- Prepare monthly economic outlook reports and briefing notes for senior management
- Monitor inflation, exchange rates, interest rates, and GDP indicators
- Conduct industry and competitor market analyses
- Present findings and recommendations to department heads and boards
- Collaborate with finance and strategy teams on business planning and scenario analysis
- Review government policy changes and assess their impact on business operations
Work Environment
Primarily office-based, working within research, strategy, or treasury departments of banks, large corporates, or research institutions. The environment is analytical and data-driven, with regular presentations to senior stakeholders.
