About This Role
Investigates, assesses, and settles insurance claims — motor accidents, fire damage, marine cargo loss, or health claims. Works for insurers or as an independent loss assessor. Requires knowledge of policy wordings, repair costs, and legal liability. Field-intensive role with site visits.
A Day in the Life
A Claims Adjuster's day is highly dynamic, often split between office work and extensive field visits. You'll investigate accident scenes, inspect damaged property, interview claimants and witnesses, and gather evidence. Back in the office, you'll analyze policy documents, prepare detailed assessment reports, negotiate settlements, and communicate with all parties involved.
- Travel to accident sites or damaged properties for inspection and assessment
- Interview claimants, witnesses, and other relevant parties to gather information
- Examine damaged goods, vehicles, or property to determine the extent of loss
- Review insurance policies to confirm coverage and terms
- Obtain repair estimates, medical reports, or other supporting documentation
- Prepare detailed claims reports, including findings, recommendations, and settlement calculations
- Negotiate settlement amounts with claimants or their representatives
- Communicate regularly with policyholders, agents, and legal counsel
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all claims
