A Day in the Life
You manufacture complex, tight-tolerance components using precision machining, grinding, and measurement processes — ensuring parts meet exacting dimensional specifications for engineering, medical, aerospace, or defence applications.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Set up and operate precision machining equipment — CNC mills, turning centres, grinders
- Select and qualify cutting tools and machining parameters for tight tolerances
- Perform in-process measurement using precision instruments (CMM, micrometers, bore gauges)
- Complete first-article inspection reports for new production runs
- Identify and correct out-of-tolerance conditions during production
- Maintain machine calibration records and precision equipment logs
- Collaborate with quality engineers on non-conformance resolution
Work Environment
Precision machining facility — climate-controlled environment to maintain dimensional stability, clean surfaces, and precision measurement stations. Sri Lanka's precision manufacturing sector is concentrated in the Biyagama and Katunayake FTZs and serves export markets (Europe, Japan, USA) in medical devices, electronics components, and engineered products.
