About This Role
Records and designs audio for films, teledramas, music videos, radio programmes, and advertising. Works in recording studios (Sarigama Music, Ananda Samarakoon Recording), TV channel audio suites, or freelance. Live event sound engineering (for concerts at Nelum Pokuna, BMICH) is a parallel career path. Protools, Logic Pro, and Reaper are key DAWs used in Sri Lanka.
A Day in the Life
A Sound Designer's day varies greatly, from recording dialogue and foley on set, to mixing music in a studio, or designing complex soundscapes for films. It requires a keen ear, technical expertise, and creative problem-solving to enhance the auditory experience.
- Record dialogue, sound effects, and ambient sounds on location or in a studio
- Edit and clean up raw audio recordings
- Design and create custom sound effects (foley, synthesised sounds)
- Mix and master audio tracks for films, TV, music, or commercials
- Synchronize audio with visual elements (picture lock)
- Collaborate with directors, producers, and other creative team members
- Maintain and troubleshoot audio equipment
- Stay updated on new audio technologies and software
Work Environment
