A Day in the Life
Systems Analysts bridge business needs and IT solutions — gathering requirements from stakeholders, analysing current systems, designing process improvements, writing functional specifications, and ensuring implemented systems meet business objectives.
- Conduct requirements gathering sessions with business stakeholders
- Analyse existing systems and business processes for improvement opportunities
- Write business requirements documents (BRD) and functional specifications
- Model processes using BPMN, flowcharts, and use cases
- Liaise between development teams and business users
- Review and test implemented systems against requirements
- Manage stakeholder sign-off and change requests
Work Environment
Corporate IT department, consulting firm, or system integrator. Bridge role requiring both business-facing and technical environments. Meeting-heavy but also documentation-intensive.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Generally structured. Project go-live periods can be demanding. Consulting firms more intense than corporate in-house roles.
