A Day in the Life
Ensure that the organisation adheres to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies — conducting compliance monitoring, responding to regulatory changes, and embedding a culture of compliance throughout the business.
- Monitor compliance with applicable regulatory requirements across all business functions
- Review operational processes for compliance with internal policies and procedures
- Assess and report on compliance risk within assigned business areas
- Develop and maintain compliance registers, checklists, and monitoring programmes
- Conduct staff compliance training on AML, data protection, and relevant regulations
- Investigate potential compliance breaches and document findings
- Respond to regulatory queries and assist in managing regulatory inspections
- Prepare compliance reports for the Chief Compliance Officer and Board
Work Environment
Compliance function in a regulated financial institution, insurance company, or large corporate. In Sri Lanka, Compliance Officers are mandatory in banks (as per CBSL Banking Act requirements), insurance companies (IRCSL), securities firms (SEC), and finance companies. Also found in multinational companies complying with global compliance frameworks.
Typical hours: 45h/week · WLB score 7/10 · OCCASIONAL overtime
Good balance in general. Regulatory submission deadlines and inspection preparation periods create short intensive phases.
