A Day in the Life
Work within a consulting firm or independently to help clients solve complex strategic, operational, or organisational problems — using structured analysis, industry expertise, and executive-level communication to deliver recommendations that create measurable business value.
- Structure complex business problems into hypothesis-driven analytical frameworks
- Conduct primary research (client interviews, surveys) and secondary research (industry benchmarking)
- Build financial models and business cases to evaluate strategic options
- Lead workstreams within multi-consultant engagement teams
- Prepare and deliver executive-level findings presentations to C-suite clients
- Manage day-to-day client relationship on active engagements
- Develop proposals and scope documents for new client opportunities
- Coach junior analysts on problem-solving methodology and communication
Work Environment
Consulting firm environment (often open-plan) with significant time spent at client offices. In Sri Lanka, management consultants work at Big 4 advisory arms (KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, EY), specialist boutiques, and increasingly as internal strategists at conglomerates. ADB and World Bank-funded government consultancies are a significant market for experienced practitioners.
